Before you begin
Before adding your references for a company on Spark Hire, we recommend reaching out to your references to:
- Let them know you're listing them as a reference and providing their contact information
- Give them a heads up that they will receive a reference check request via Spark Hire on behalf of the company you're engaged with
- Explain that they'll simply be asked to answer a few questions through a reference survey that they can complete on their own time. At the same time, emphasize how you'd really appreciate a prompt response given the hiring process timeline.
How to add your reference and submit them
When a company you're engaged with in the hiring process requests references from you on Spark Hire, you'll receive an email from Spark Hire that includes a link to add your reference details.
In the email, you'll see a button to Submit References which will take you to the page where you can start adding the information that was requested by the company. If the button doesn't work, there should also be a link at the bottom of the email you can copy and paste into your browser's address bar.
The company may have requested for you to submit between 1 and 5 references.
For each reference, you'll be asked to submit:
- Full name
- Phone number (Optional)
- Job title (Optional)
- Relationship to you (Optional)
- Company name (Optional)
Keep in mind that you'll be able to do a final review of all the information you've added before you officially submit it to the company.
If you need to change the details about a reference before submitting them to the company, simply click Edit next to their name.
Once you've entered all of the requested references, you can can submit them to the company.
The company will not see any of your references' information until you submit all of them at once.
What if I don't have enough references to submit?
You're only able to submit your references when you've provided the amount required by the company.
If the company requested more references than you're able to provide, we recommend reaching out to the company directly so they can advise on how to proceed.
What if I want to add more references than the company asked for?
You're only able to add the amount of references that were requested by the company. If you have further details to share with the company, we suggest reaching out to the company directly.
What happens when I submit my references?
When you've submitted all of your references, two things happen simultaneously:
- The company you're engaged with will be notified that you submitted your references and can view the information you provided.
- Your references will be emailed by Spark Hire with a link to submit their reference for you via a reference survey.
Can I update information about my references after I've submitted it?
No, once you've submitted your references, you're unable to edit the information you provided. In this case, we recommend reaching out to the company you're engaged with directly so you can provide them with updated information or ask them to send you an additional reference request via Spark Hire.
