You may have some questions when preparing for a one-way video interview and we're here to help!
Best practices before your begin
- Choose a quiet, well-lit location where you won't be interrupted
- Use a supported browser for one-way video interviews
- Close other applications that may be using your camera or microphone (such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams, or Google Meet)
- Position your camera at eye level so your face is clearly visible
- Silence notifications on your devices to minimize distractions
- Set aside enough uninterrupted time to complete the one-way video interview before the deadline
- Review the instructions and tutorials provided by Spark Hire during the process
- Take advantage of the option to practice recording at the start of your one-way video interview
Can I practice recording?
Yes, you can practice recording. After you check your camera, microphone, and connection, you will have the opportunity to record practice videos so you can better familiarize yourself with the recording process. Practice videos are not saved or shared with the company.
Can I check my camera and microphone first?
Yes, you can check your camera and microphone before the one-way video interview starts. After the short tutorial, you can test and select your camera and microphone before you begin your interview.
Can I view the questions before I start my one-way video interview?
No, you can’t view the one-way video interview questions in advance. You will see one question at a time during the one-way video interview unless the company has shared questions outside the platform.
What questions might I be asked during my one-way video interview?
Spark Hire is not able to provide guidance or insight on what questions a particular company may ask in a one-way video interview. We recommend reviewing the job description, company website, other online resources, and messages or materials the company has sent to you for clues about topics they might focus on.
Will I be able to re-record my answers?
The option to re-record your answers in a one-way video interview may vary from question to question.
The company you are completing the one-way video interview for can customize the following settings per question:
- Think time: This is how long you'll have to think about your response before needing to record
- Takes: This is how many takes you're allotted to record before needing to submit your response
- Time limit: This is your response's maximum duration, but you don't need to use the full amount of time
You'll be informed of these settings before you start each question.
Do I have to finish the interview in one sitting?
No. You can pause and return to complete your one-way video interview any time before the deadline. When you re-enter your one-way video interview, you'll pick up where you left off.
The one exception to this is if you have a question which gives you a limited amount of time to think about it. You'll be notified about this before viewing the question, but for this type of question, do not leave and come back.
